Gawai Dayak Party
The purpose of holding the annual Gawai party was to respect the culture of the ethnic group which constituted more than 80% of the total residents in the Centre. It was attended by all clients residing in the Centre including the staff and also a number of the committee members. Apart from the delicious food, the highlight of the party was the lucky draws with every client getting a present, either big or small. All clients were in joyful and laughing mood looking forward anxiously for a similar one in the year to come. This party was held annually since 1990.

Adult Education Class
In the era of globalisation and stiff competition knowledge is the chief resource that is highly marketable. Training and learning is therefore becoming more critical in the face of globalisation. This is also equally important for all the clients in the Centre who should equip with adequate knowledge as people are now living in the age of information technology. The role of education in personal development will be ven more important. All trainees undergoing the Vocational Training were compulsory to attend the class as it is one of the subjecys for Vocational Training.

Food Parcel Subsidy Scheme
A fairly large number of clients who are unable to come to the Centre for training due to various reasons had greatly benefited from the scheme at large. Although the scheme which was started in 1964 was actually meant for the poor clients residing in Third Division (now consisted of Sibu, Sarikei and Kapit Division) the management was quite reluctant to turn down some requests from clients who are staying outside the zone. A sum of money had been spent benefiting a considerate number of clients residing in the following districts:
a) Sibu
b) Sarikei
c) Matu
d) Daro
a) Kanowit
f) Song
g) Belaga
h) Tatau
i) Roban in Sri Aman Division
j) Julau

It is our hope that more clients would join the scheme even though more participation would incur additional expenditure for the Society.

Massage Service
The service was manned by two qualified masseurs. With more publicity, the response for massage from the public was rather encouraging than the previous years. Massage routines for relieving problems such as backache, tension, headaches and for rachieving relaxation. The success of the visually handicapped masseur could serve as motivation for other ordinary people in the street to overcome their setbacks and contribute to the economic development in the State.

Annual Open House cum Food and Fun Fair
Stalls were erected by local well-wishers, associations, churches and services organisations mostly setting food featuring local delicacies. The Open House was given the thumb up by those who thronged the centre, venue of the fund raising project. Such a meaningful project helped create a greater sense of togetherness among people of various ethnic backgrounds and from different walks of life. More than 1,000 spectators filed through the barriers during more than 5 hours period to enjoy the food, entertainment items and above all the fellowship.

Mass Blood Donation
The regular mass blood donation in the Centre was aimed at instilling greater awareness among the clients on the importance of donating their blood for a good cause because, in time of emergency, a drop of blood means so much to the society as it can save the lives of a person who need it desperately. The clients are fully aware that blood donation was a noble act and because of their blindness, one of ways they could contribute significantly towards the welfare of public is to donate their precious drop of blood in order to save more human lives during any emergency in the hospital.

Altogether, the Centre had captured 4 challenge Trophies for permanent custody for winning 3 years in succession as follows:
a)The first trophy from 1982 to 1984
b)The second trophy from 1990 to 1992
c)The third trophy from 1993 to 1995
d) The fourth trophy from 1996 to 1998

State Wide Cataract Operations
Cataract operation was one of the meaningful projects being undertaken by the Society. This worthy project was implemented in 1990 in collaboration with the Medical Department.

Coin Box Collection
Coin box collection was introduced in 1989 as another form of fund raising project. A sincere thanks to all generous donors for their continue support of this project, all organisations concerned for their consent in allowing us to place our coin boxes in their respective counters and the caring staff of certain organisations for their practical concern to ensure the safety of our boxes under their care.

White Cane Day Celebration
Since 1987, an elaborated programme was always prepared every year to celebrate the international White Cane Day which falls on 15th October. The White Cane Day is the most important event for all the clients as all of them possessed a cane either a proper one or a simple structure for use every day for their path and mobility acting as a sensitive transmitter of information in their daily living skill.
