Subsidy Scheme

The Sarawak Thalassaemia Society is currently running a scheme where we subsidize the purchase of Desferrel (a life saving drug) and blood filters for the patients. This subsidy scheme has allowed more families to give their children full treatment.

Currently, out of the 39 known patients in Sarawak, only 20 of them are on medical treatment. Among those already on Desferral, some are not on the full or proper dosage that they should be on due to financial constraints.

It is our objective to get all the Sarawakian patients on full treatment. The aim of our fundraising is to get as close as we can to offering a 100% subsidy to all the children that require Desferral.

The cost for running this scheme is about RM24,000 per month. That's why there is a need for us to continue to raise funds to keep it going.

Our Subsidy Per Month

For each patient, we will subsidize:
Desferral @ 2 vials per day * 30 days	RM558.00
Blood filter @ 1 unit per month	RM58.00
Total subsidy per patient:	RM616.00

For 39 patients = RM634 * 39 = RM24,024.00

At present, the Society is offering the following benefits to the Thalassaemia patients:

•	Deferral subsidy	RM9.30 per vial (normal RM15.30)
•	Blood filter	Free (normal RM58.00)
